Van 16 september tot 22 december kan je bij Croxhapox terecht voor de derde editie van Brainbox. Voor dit unieke concept gaan telkens drie kunstenaars samen aan de slag. Ze creëren een kunstwerk dat een tijdje wordt tentoongesteld en dat om de zoveel tijd door een volgend artiestentrio deels wordt herwerkt. Zo blijft het werk in een constante evolutie. 

Op zaterdag 21 september wordt de eerste "versie" van dit werk tentoongesteld. Het startschot van dit werk in evolutie wordt voorafgegaan door een audioperformance van Simon Halsberghe (21u).

"From 16 september till 22 december seven groups of three or four artists take turns in a transformation estafette: each group takes on the presentation of the previous group - only unit 1 starts from a blank slate, they define the starting point – and turns that presentation into a new constellation, in absolute freedom.  No curators will be breathing down their neck. Each group will be working for one week, after which the presentation is open to the public for another week.

It is important that the BRAINBOX-artists are not allowed to claim any rights on the final or intermediate products: what they create is a temporary part of the transformation-estafette. Neither can there be commercial considerations – in total freedom, the groups of three or four collaborating artists tackle a given original formulated by the first group that underwent a number of consecutive transformations.

There are, nevertheless, some restrictions. Groups are not supposed to take de work or part of the work of the previous unit to the skip. That would destroy the overall tension of  the project. For their transformations, each unit will have the same budget at their disposition, which they can use in whatever way they like. A somewhat ironic example would be a group that decides to leave the previous group’s work untouched and spend a week at an outdoor café in Rome. That decision would be an integral and de facto part of the project in progress.
Precisely because of the absolute freedom of the artists BRAINBOX is what it is, a transformational melting pot of often vastly diverging and as often corresponding relationship. Every given and not previously defined situation leads to a series of changes of aspect and content and form – therein lies the challenge. A blind date.

The thrid edition of this croxhapox project starts at the end of September 2013. The first edition of 2006 offered a transformation project with 18 artists during three months. The second, much longer edition was in 2008/2009.

The development of BRAINBOX3 can be followed online from 16 September on a specifically for this project developed wiki-page, coordinated by Boris Van den Eynden and Lieven Van Speybroeck. Inge Braeckman, Jan Op de Beeck, Dirk Van Bastelaere and some more writers will participate in the literary  accompaniment."
