THE DOG DAYS ARE OVER: een dansvoorstelling waar de sprong centraal staat als de meest essentiële van fysieke handelingen, en springen beoogd wordt als uitputtingsslag.

Jan Martens, die afstudeerde aan de Fontys Dance Academy in Tilburg en het Artesis Conservatorium voor Dans in Antwerpen, maakt sinds 2009 zelf choreografieën die steeds opnieuw positief onthaald worden door zowel critici als publiek. 

Op zijn site omschrijft hij zijn laatste voorstelling als "a jumped, minimal and political work for eight performers". De inspiratie vond hij onder andere bij een uitspraak uit 1958 van de Amerikaanse fotograaf Philippe Halsman: “When you ask a person to jump, his attention is mostly directed toward the act of jumping and the mask falls so that the real person appears.”. Zo wordt THE DOG DAYS ARE OVER een dansvoorstelling over de persoon achter de danser, over het falen in het streven naar perfectie, over dat precieze moment wanneer het masker van de danser valt.

"To reach this, a very complex, mathematical, dynamic and tiring choreography is constructed, which is performed almost completely in unison. The difficulty degree of the choreography is so high, that the dancers eventually will go wrong. It is there where the mask falls."

Bovendien poogt Martens ook een meer filosofische vraag te stellen (en te beantwoorden) omtrent de rol van dans in de kunst met deze voorstelling. Waar ligt de grens tussen kunst en entertainment, hoe ziet het publiek de danser, en is "contemporary dance striptease for the upper class?"

Op 3 en 4 april gaat de voorstelling in Belgische première in CAMPO.
