Scott Colley is een begaafd jazzmuzikant en componist en een grote naam in de hedendaagse jazzscene.

Zijn jarenlange ervaring als bassist bij onder andere Michael Brecker, Jim Hall en Herbie Hancock -om er maar drie te noemen- maakte hem tot de veelzijdige, getalenteerde muzikant die hij nu is. Zijn muzikale fijngevoeligheid komt tot uiting in zorgvuldig opgebouwde nummers, rijkelijk uitgewerkte akkoorden en impressionante improvisaties. Jaren 50ritmes- en sfeer worden afgewisseld met melancholische nocturnes.

Zelf plakt hij niet graag een genre op zijn muziek: “I’m not really interested in creating genre music,” zegt hij “I’m not even really that comfortable with calling my music jazz, although that’s one of my largest influences. But the great thing about improvised music is that it’s a language that allows for a individual to include anything that they’re interested in. And if you get with other musicians who also have that same openness, then anything is possible… any genre or idea can be entered into the mix.”

Dinsdag 19 februari presenteert Colley in de Bijloke ons een nieuw project met drie geniale muzikanten: Mark Turner (sax), Bill Stewart (drums) en Kevin Hays (piano). Een absolute must see, dus!
